Stupor Tuesday

E-mail Print PDF

Ladies and gentlemen, yesterday was what they call Super Tuesday.

Meh.

This is shaping up to be a race wherein either of the two dominant parties will most likely put up a candidate for President that really won't change anything.  For those of you who hold out hope that Barack Obama might just be a real candidate for change, please remember that he comes out of Illinois - with strong support of the Illinois Democratic Party.  He is a product of machine politics as much as either of the Clintons.  If he should become President, there will be people he is beholdent to, and I'm not referring to the general population

Where are the real mavericks?  Don't say Ron Paul or Dennis Kuchinich.  Open minded to them looks more like squishy minded to me.  Huckabee?  What part of 'separation of church and state' don't  you understand?  giuliani looked good for a while, definite fiscal and security minded conservative, but realistic enough not to get caught up in some arbitrary litmus test on abortion or same-sex marriage.  We could have had our law and order and our free society too.  That is, if you believe the President actually has that much influence over such things.

The real problem, ladies and gentlemen, is the failing U.S. Congress.  Legislators who are lawyers writing laws and weighing in on issues in an agenda determined by the media, not the people.  Where are the representatives of the people?  I can show you the representatives for Disney, the RIAA, the MPAA, 'Big Oil', 'Big Tobacco', AT&T, the Insurance Industry, etc.  But where are the representatives of the people?  WHere are the elder statesmen, the erudite senators with a command of rhetoric such that assinine legislation brought to the floor suffers ridicule, rather than renegotiation?  Where are the defenders of truth?  Where are the champions of sane budget policy and government accountability?

Ladies and gentlemen, our President, head of the Administrative branch of government needs to be able to administrate - to effectively carry out the will of the people.  The biggest problem is that 'the will of the people' is not getting to the President.  It is being ignored by the very people meant to encode our will into policy the administration can act on.  Instead, the will of the people is being replaced by the will of whichever organization is most effective at wielding financial pressure against legislators.
